SUPPLIES of freshly caught fish have all but dried up, because fishermen have been unable to operate in bad weather.
Fishmongers who insist on sourcing direct from day boats have been left high and dry over the past week, with a meagre selection to offer customers.
It is a result of days of relentless high winds, combined with high tides, which made it impossible for smaller boats to go out, except in rare weather windows.

AT least 50 giant crabs and lobsters are set to side-step their way through two north Norfolk towns next spring - and organisers are urging potential sponsors not to miss out.
Sheringham and Cromer's Crab and Lobster Festival will take over the town for three days in May, preceded by a seven-week sculpture trail, or Crustacea Crawl.

They glide in their tanks like silver ghosts, which is what they're in danger of becoming.
Since 1995, the Leon Raymond Hubbard Jr. Marine Fish Hatchery in Carlsbad has released 1.4 million white sea bass into the ocean, helping replenish supplies of the once-abundant fish.
The hatchery is part of the Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute headquartered on Mission Bay. The nonprofit researches marine animals and their environment.

Over the past two years, recreational saltwater fishermen such as Patrick Paquette of Hyannis have been trekking up to Beacon Hill to work with legislators to draft a bill establishing the first-ever license fee for their hobby in Massachusetts.
That legislation, putting in place a recommended $10 annual fee, passed the House and Senate without opposition this week and now sits on Gov. Deval Patrick's desk awaiting his signature.

I am done with my fall sampling for another year - yeah!
I finished all my netting last week - ending eight weeks of sampling for another year.
I started at Lakewood in Salina, then moved to Ottawa State Fishing Lake, Kanopolis and finally to Wilson.
